Students Explore Krakow's Rich History
Despite the biting cold, a group of our humanities students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Krakow, Poland. The trip was filled with educational experiences that left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Day 1: A Sobering Start at Auschwitz-Birkenau
The adventure began with a guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, where students delved into the harrowing history of the concentration and death camps. The visit provided a profound understanding of the conditions endured by prisoners during World War II.
Day 2: Encounters with History
The second day was equally enlightening. The students visited the Galicia Jewish Museum, where they had the rare opportunity to meet a Holocaust survivor. This personal encounter brought history to life in a way that textbooks never could. In the afternoon, the group explored the Gestapo Museum, the former headquarters of the Nazi Gestapo in Poland. Here, they saw the cells where prisoners were once held, adding another layer of depth to their historical knowledge.
Day 3: Discovering Krakow's Charm
On the final day, the students enjoyed a walking tour of Krakow. They wandered through the city's historic streets, learning about its rich past and vibrant culture. The tour was a perfect conclusion to their educational trip, leaving them with a deeper appreciation for Krakow's history and resilience.
The trip to Krakow was more than just a visit; it was a journey through time that educated and inspired the students, despite the freezing temperatures.
