Year 8 Rugby just miss out on win

On Tuesday 12th November our Year 8 Rugby team played St Peters Catholic School, Orrell in the North West Region Quarter Final of the National Champion Schools Rugby League Competition.

Although the weather conditions didn't help the home team (St Peters; who won the Year 7 Regional Finals last year) took the lead. The game was finely balanced, with mistakes from both teams. At half time St Peters led by 10 - 8. The Sutton Academy defended strongly throughout most of the second half, and took the lead 10-12 with ten minutes remaining. Unfortunately, in the final play of the match St Peters scored and converted a try, to make the score 16-12.

Although the result was very disappointing, the team played extremely well, with strong performances from Zach McColl, Brad Sherwood, Ellis Keppel, Robbie Barrett, Danny Moss, Owen Kenton and Callum Hitchmough. We wish St Peters “Good Luck” in the semi-finals and we look forward to our next match against St Augustine's in the St Helens Secondary Schools RL Cup.
